There are eight planets in our solar system, the sun cannot be classed as a planet, as it is a star. It is the only star that astronomers are able to see closely, the suns name is Sol, and looks like a bright red and yellow fireball, only it is not on fire. The sun glows because of nuclear reactions which take place in its core, these nuclear reactions are hot enough to make the sun glow. The sun is huge and is thought to be a million times bigger than Earth.

Over the years Mar’s atmosphere dwindled into outer space, and all the water that was left on the surface began to evaporate. The only water which is left on Mars today is either in polar caps, underground or frozen. There are two moons which are associated with this planet. Much like Earth Mars also has deep canyons, high mountains and volcano’s, but these are on a much grander scale than what they are on Earth.

There is a theory called the ‘big bang theory’ which suggests that the solar system was created many years ago in outer space, with what started with a ‘big bang’. It suggests that the universe was created and expanded from a hot prehistoric condition, this condition enables the Earth to keep expanding to this day. However, there are many theories about the evolution of the solar system, and it will continue to baffle people and scientists through time.
